ICIC – IDUAI 2026: Upholding Information Integrity in the Digital Age
28–30 September 2026 | Freetown, Sierra Leone
The International Conference of Information Commissioners (ICIC), in collaboration with UNESCO, convened for the first time ever its 17th Conference alongside the global conference marking the International Day for Universal Access to Information (IDUAI) 2026, from 28 to 30 September 2026 in Freetown, Sierra Leone.
It brought together information commissioners, public authorities, policymakers, researchers, civil society representatives and other stakeholders from across the world. The conference provided an international platform for dialogue and cooperation on advancing access to information as a fundamental pillar of transparency, accountability and democratic governance.
Held under the theme “Upholding Information Integrity in the Digital Age: The Role of Access to Information in Addressing Information Disorder,” the conference addressed the growing challenges posed by misinformation, disinformation and other forms of information disorder in an increasingly digital and interconnected world. Particular attention was given to the implications of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, for the reliability, accessibility and integrity of information.
The simultaneous organization of the ICIC Conference and the global IDUAI conference represented an important opportunity to strengthen synergies between the international community of information commissioners and the broader global access-to-information movement. Through this joint initiative, the ICIC Network reaffirms the importance of collaboration among oversight institutions and international partners in promoting transparent, accountable and inclusive societies.
